Winter Storage Problems? Garage Shelving and Storage Cabinet Solutions

Everyone can use more storage. Especially here in Southern Nevada and the Las Vegas Valley where houses are not built to include a basement, and the only storage we have is in our garage. Installing shelving and cabinets not only gives you so much more storage it gives you chance to organize your garage, and expand the efficiency and space of your home.

Here are a few handy tips that may help you do it yourself, or give Your Las Vegas Handyman a call, we would love to help:

Make sure shelves or cabinets clear garage doors, garage door tracks and service doors.

Keep cabinets and shelves above head level in foot traffic areas, and away from doors so you don’t bump into them.

Remember to allow enough space between the ceiling and the shelving for tall items you plan to store.

If you have a large pickup truck or SUV, make sure your shelving or cabinets don’t obstruct the doors

Preparing For Winter…in the Desert

Save on energy costs during the winter here in Las Vegas and all throughout Southern Nevada by replacing old doors on your home. Front doors, back doors, or even a side access door to your garage can be a big energy waster. Keeping the cold air out and the warm air in during the winter months helps to keep the heating bills down too.  With the rising cost of energy these days every penny of savings goes a long way in making Southern Nevada and Las Vegas a ‘Greener’ place to live.

Replacing old doors also saves money and energy during the summer months which here in Las Vegas can average 95 to 105 degrees for months. Also, the extreme desert heat we have here in the southwest causes the rubber around the doors to crack and peel. Replacing that also helps save on energy. Replacing the door to keep the heat out and the cool air in is a good idea and also a ‘Green’ idea. So replace that door with an energy efficient one, and improve the look of your home while increasing your energy savings!

Do You Have The Winter Blahs?

Well an excellent idea to help with the blahs is to spruce up the interior of your home.  Painting a room such as the living room or dining room to help make them more inviting and warm.  Wonderful rooms for hosting holiday parties.

An important project for preparing for the colder temps…

Before the temperatures reach the freezing point it is important to cover your exterior pipes. They should be wrapped tightly with a special insulation used specifically for this purpose. It is also a good idea to wrap your water heater with a water heater blanket made of fiberglass and foil on both sides for the ultimate insulation.

Just simply taking precautions ahead of time can save you lots of headaches by preparing these easy fixes.  Over the next weeks I will be back here with some additional ideas for preparing for the colder temps here in Southern Nevada.
